Lindsay, oh Lindsay!

The Candy Jar she won at the Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. She guessed 2058, actual count was 2134. The phone message we got saying that she won was so funny - The Event Coordinator said "Hey Meredith - I have good news and bad news. The good news is that Lindsay won the M&M jar contest. The bad news is that I need to drop it off at your house to get it out of mine!" My girlfriend's kiddos won the contest for a jar Robbin Eggs (my favorite Easter candy) and she brought me a gallon bag full of them! I think we are all going to be sick!

(Tooth pictures are always for Aunt Shelly - she hates this kind of thing - grosses her out so, enjoy!) The toothless wonder strikes again! Lost tooth number 3 before school today. It had been close for a week. She was having a hard time eating so she wanted "soft lunches" for school last week - yogurt, applesauce, that sort of thing. Well, today as she was getting ready for school I took one look at her and it was practically sideways. I told her to let me get it out of there. So I yanked it.

Happy Easter!

We had a fantastic Easter weekend! And wow - did Easter sneak up on us this year...as I learned on my friend's blog, the date for Easter is set by the first Sunday Following the first full moon after the spring Equinox. The earliest Easter can be is March 22 and the latest is April 25th. There you go - a little Easter trivia for you.

Easter began Friday with a play group Easter Egg Hunt - (here you see Lindsay and one of her very best friends Ellie.) Since the big kids were home for spring break, they got to join the little ones - usually not the case!

Caroline in action - loving every minute of the hunt and rejoicing every time she found a blue egg. That girl and her blue... (Note the blue jacket, shirt, flip flops and bunny bag from preschool.)

Saturday, Molly and I were working Spring Festival with our baby boutique booth so Steve took the girls to the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt.
It is now Caroline's turn to be terrified of the Easter Bunny (that bunny kinda scares me too...) so just a picture for Lindsay! But, she got her face painted by a girl in our ward - she loves getting her face painted. Lindsay WON a huge jar of candy. She guessed that this jar contained 2058 M&M's and Reese's Eggs. It actually contained 2134. She guessed within 76 - wow - the estimation skills gained in first grade these days...

Lindsay demonstrating some technical Easter Egg dying skill to her little sister.

Sunday morning, The Easter Bunny paid us a visit and the girls were surprised with fun baskets and a little hunt around the house. However, this will be the last time the Easter Bunny comes on Sunday. We knew we had a problem with focusing on the true meaning of easter, the Atonement and Resurrection of the Savior, when the girls started to make "Easter Lists" much like a Christmas wish list. Gulp. We realized we were failing miserably as parents. Our family talked about it and ultimately, Lindsay wrote the following letter to the Easter bunny and left it on the ottoman Saturday night: Dear Easter Bunny, Happy Easter! I know Sunday is Easter day but can you please try to bring our Easter Things on Saturday before because Sunday is a Sabbath day? Love, Lindsay. She received the following reply: Wonderful idea girls! The most important part of the Easter is the Savior. Love, The Easter Bunny. I don't think the Easter bunny will give up the baskets though - it is about the only time the girls get new DVD's.

The four AZ cousins in their coordinating Easter Dresses...and sweater vests. Molly and I found these dresses for a steal last summer in Colorado and then added the silk button back sash to them. My girls selected their favorite colors - Purple for Lindsay and can you guess - light blue for Caroline. Brynley's was green to match Hayden's sweater. Molly made the girls beautiful white flower clips for their hair and the girls looked so fresh and classic for Easter Sunday.

A quick family snapshot in Dad's back yard following the Easter Egg Hunt put on by Grandpa and Debbie. This is always a fun one - they fill the eggs with money! We had a fantastic Easter dinner with everyone contributing our favorite family traditional Easter recipes.

And now, the pregnant sisters after egg hunts and dinner was over - my wonderful Mother in Law Shirley requested a picture of the two of us together with our pregnant tummies. (if you feel the need for a profile belly shot, check out Molly's blog. ) Neither one of us was feeling too cute (I was so mad because I couldn't find my nice white maternity top to coordinate with the girls) but here you go anyway. Molly is due about 2 weeks before me and is having her 3rd as well, a boy.

Yea!!!!!!!!!!!! We are REALLY painting today!!!

OK, I have an easter post about ready to go - (the girls were beautiful of course!) but I wanted to get something up today and will add pictures later. My AMAZING friends who I love like a mom and dad are coming over today to help us paint the hallway and great room. The other day when I was having my nervous break down and "I can't get anything done" melt down, my dear friend Marty called and I debated about answering the phone because, well, I was a pregnant crying mess! I am sure the Lord doesn't care too much if we paint or not, but it truly was an answer to my pathetic prayers when she called. She said "what is bugging you the most - I know you have been behind especially because Caroline was so sick for all of spring break - we are coming over to help." So, she came Thursday and we gutted and reorganized a few cabinets and scheduled a painting party for today. I love them so much!!!!

Anyone Do MySpace or Facebook?

I just created profiles on both - I was inspired to do so by an old high school friend who was in town this weekend for a wedding and I got a little nostalgic thinking about old friends. I LOVE this mommy blog world but it is also fun and interesting to find some old friends. Both my sisters have MySpace profiles but I don't think I had ever looked at them until today! Anyone else? I really can't see these going anywhere (MySpace is such a cluttered icky interface anyway...don't want to spend a lot of time there). But, I did scroll thru looking at registered alumni from my high school and that sort of thing is always eye-opening! I AM from Portland, Oregon after all...I was friends with all kinds of crazies!

And Mama is productive again...

Our New Nursery...sort of!!!

It seems like I have lost so much time being sick...and it is true! On Monday, I finally finished painting the front bedroom I started 3 weeks ago when I thought my sick time was just a little weekend cold. Turns out I am very happy with the color and it will be the color throughout the rest of my house. I have had boxes and bins and bags and all kinds of misc. stuff lined up in my front hallway for 3 weeks and now it is almost done being sorted and put in proper places. See, I get to share the front bedroom as a sewing room/nursery for the babe so most of the stuff that came out of that room is sewing room things. I have purged and reorganized and it feels good. Crazy me, I am still making a new crib set for the nursery. I made my previous set and it was darling but it was kinda thrashed after two kids. So, I have everything to make my crib set as soon as my new sewing table and chair is set up (still in the van - just need Steve well enough to help bring it in and assemble - Thanks Ikea!!!!) So, I was out shopping with Molly Tuesday and found the most lovely green/pink/white patchwork king quilt and I am using that to make bumpers and stuff. It has a traditional look with some more modern funky fabric prints and I love it. As I was going thru my fabrics, I found several that may coordinate for additional accessories - we will see!! So far, with buying the quilt, toss pillow, crib sheet, new changing pad cover, and 1 fabric for the crib skirt, I am in it for around $100. Every set I looked at to buy that I acutally liked was more in the $300+ range. So, that is good. Forever ago when I worked for Eddie Bauer Home, I bought these 3 shadow box/shelves when they were on clearance and with my discount they were about $2 each! I am finally using them. We splurged on a beautiful white sleigh crib when we had Lindsay and it was a good investment - it is girly and that keeps working for us! BUT it has yellowed over 6 1/2 years, and not in a good way. Glen (our painting buddy) is going to give it a professional spray job to refinish it for me. Yea!!!!!

Wish me luck...if everyone could just get well, then I feel I could really be off and running! Steve is on day 3 being home sick from work and Caroline woke up with another fever like last week...ugh! At least I feel better!

PS - our/(MY?) C-section has officially been scheduled for May 6th (1 week earlier than my due date) and I got him do to a quickie ultrasound just to make sure she is still a girl. And, as you can see from the above nursery items, she is! And I am pretty sure she has a name too - stay tuned!

What's Black and White and CUTE all over?

My little Penguin Lindsay! It seems like only yesterday she was 3 months old and dressed as a penguin for her first Halloween! Oh, how she has grown up! Friday, the last day of school before spring break, was "First Grade Penguin Day!" Today they got to deviate from their standard Red/White/Blue/Khaki dress code and wear black and white and she loved choosing her outfit, bring penguin themed books (Thanks Nana Bean for one of our FAVORITE books The Little Penguin), and bring black and white treats. Lindsay chose to bring Thin Mints - thank goodness we had them due to our Girl Scout cookies being recently delivered...It seems like FOREVER that Lindsay has been learning all about Penguins. I guess a first grade science unit can seem to go on and on if they only do it once or twice a week. She shared with me some of what she has learned:

1. Penguins live in the Antarctic, South America and South Africa
2. Penguins eat krill
3. They are fast swimmers
4. Some are big, some are little
5. Most penguins are black and white
6. But sometimes have yellow or orange feathers on their neck or head
7. An Emperor Penguin can be 40" tall
8. Penguins waddle and slide on their tummies down hills
9. Fathers carry eggs...on their feet while the mommy goes out to sea to get food
10. The "Little Blue" penguin is the smallest penguin and it is blue!
11. Kind of penguins Lindsay knows... Emperor, King, Macaroni, Little Blue, Chin Strap, and more but she forgot.
12. Baby Penguins eat seafood too...which is "barf" from the Mommy (Thanks for the description...makes breast feeding seem so civilized!)

Here are a couple more pictures and stuff about my big girl as of late. It seems as I have had several posts about the other critter Caroline lately, time for some Lindsay bloggin'!!! Lindsay is our mature, responsible, yet very emotionally tender and sometimes timid little girl. We love how she is a fantastic sister to Caroline - they are the best of friends but she is also a great helper to mommy. Sometimes I feel so bad when I need to correct her behavior (I mean - get mad and have to yell about something...) She is usually so good but sometimes pushes and pushes me, especially with my pregnancy hormones all wacky. Most of the time, she is a delightful little girl who is really growing up too soon...right before our eyes. Still a tiny one, she has a smile that makes her stand head and shoulders above the rest!

Our little monkey in the climbing tree

Lindsay gets to "walk home" with several friends and they all meet at this tree in the neighborhood where several mommies and daddies are waiting to take them the rest of the way home. Each week she gets a little higher in the tree, rivaling the boys. Those monkey bar muscles she developed in Kindergarten are paying off! She used to be so excited to round the corner and see me but now she is more excited to drop her bag and run to the tree! It is a great little group of kids and my parent friends and I have a deal: if any of us are running late for some reason, we never leave the kiddos - someone always stays to make sure the last of our little crew goes home safely. Maybe some day I will let her walk all the way home - there are 4 other kids she could walk all the way home with that are within a few houses of us...but we are not all ready for that yet! We are lucky that we are a half mile from her school where most have to drive so walking is not even an option for most - we do not have any busing at our school as it is an alternative "choice" school.

Lindsay's first grade class - she is 2nd from left in the front row

We have enjoyed Lindsay blossom this year in school. She is consistently achieving 95-100% on everything she does and on which she is evaluated. She is above grade level in reading and math . Funny thing as of late - instead of reading or coloring during Sacrament Meeting at church, she would rather we make "math worksheets" for her to do! Reading is OK to her, she is doing fine, at a 2.5 grade level or so but I think math is her love right now. And science. The other day, she was making science experiments after school. First, Caroline decided she needed a collection of ice so all our little cups disappeared into the freezer to make ice. OK, but then Lindsay decided to make a science experiment out of it. She wrote up a sheet and drew illustrations. She wanted to see what happened to various dry cereals that were put into the water and frozen into the ice. FYI, Fruit Loops fair much better than Frosted Mini-Wheats!

Our budding gymnast!

We thought we were going to be all dance, all the time with Lindsay. Not so. We took the fall off from most activities, except soccer, and she really wanted to do more gymnastics after a summer session that she loved. So, we started both girls in gymnastics before Christmas and this little girl is so happy - bridges, cart wheels, intro vault, balance beam, bar work - she loves it all and practices at home. Lindsay is still dancing, we started one combo class after the holidays, but we need to keep up with the gymnastics I think - she is really in her element and her coaches both complimented how well she has picked up on skills that they had been working on for a few months before she joined the class.

Our little girl is growing up...it is so fun getting to know the girl she is becoming before our eyes!

Twilight...who knew?

Due to my continued battle with "The Plague" (going on 3 week now...ugh) and now Caroline's venture into the 103 degree fever realm, I finally got a chance to get "into" Twilight and finished it yesterday afternoon. I never knew falling in love with a Vampire could be so captivating...or seem so normal. It is an easy read and even I wasn't turned off by the vampire lore or stories. Now, this is coming from someone who won't even watch a Harry Potter movie, let alone read one of the books! I just don't do fantasy and wizards and that sort of thing. So, I have finally figured out what most of you know - Twilight is a great fun read and I am ready to get into the next books of the series, New Moon and Eclipse. But, I have ALL THESE UNDONE projects looming...and I keep getting more and more pregnant! Ugh....
